People’s United Bank and Wakeman Boys & Girls Club Partner to Take Fundraising to New Heights
Fundraiser Event Registration Opens Today
BRIDGEPORT, CT – People's United Bank, N.A. a subsidiary of People's United Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: PBCT), and Wakeman Boys & Girls Club announced today registration has opened for an exciting community fundraising rappelling challenge that will take place on September 16, 2018. Participants will rappel off the 248 foot high People’s United Bank headquarters at 850 Main St. in Bridgeport, CT to raise funds for and awareness of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.
Individuals must raise a minimum of $1,000 by event day to secure one of the 76 available rappelling slots. To register please visit: www.otewakeman.com. There is a $50 registration fee that goes towards a participant’s fundraising minimum, and registration is open to all.
“Community giving has always been an integral part of the People’s United Bank culture, and this is yet another exciting way we hope to energize and engage our communities to support an impactful organization here in Fairfield County,” said Jeff Tengel, Senior Executive Vice President Commercial Banking, People’s United Bank. “For more than 40 years we have partnered with Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and hope to raise more than $100,000 from this event.”
Funds raised will support critical youth and teen development programs at Wakeman’s three sites in Fairfield and Bridgeport, which serve more than 3,500 children and teens annually. The Club is also embarking on a new project to rebuild the former North End Boys & Girls Club on Madison Avenue in Bridgeport. There will be an opportunity for people to donate and not rappel, either by supporting another participant, becoming an event sponsor, or being a part of the VIP “Chicken Coop” (top fundraisers who prefer not to rappel over the edge).
“Without the support of local communities the health, wellness and leadership programs that our more than 3,500 youth and teen members rely on would not be possible, and this event marks an exciting and creative way to engage fundraisers,” said David Blagys, Executive Director, Wakeman Boys & Girls Club.
The event will be held in partnership with Over The Edge Global, who has helped raise over $70 Million with non-profit partners through its signature fundraising rappelling events. Over The Edge has hosted over 700 successful rappelling events in the past nine years.
